So why choose Sunflower Cognitive Therapies?

So why choose Sunflower Cognitive Therapies?

Hello, my name is Catherine. I am a registered Children’s Nurse and a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist.

First and foremost, I am a mum of two boys, being very different, parenting can be a challenge at times and it certainly does not come with a manual.

Both have taught me a lot and I would not be here without them today.

Passionate about being able to deliver quality, I recognised the niche for developing a specialist talking therapies service, accessible to children, young people and adults.  A service available to deliver evidence based outcomes within a timely manner, as a result, I decided to take the initiative to set up Sunflower Cognitive Therapies.

I am open and honest and I will spend time helping you to understand the presenting difficulties.  Alongside, I have developed good communication skills and knowledge to support and work with families and other professionals alike.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience…

I have over 15 years’ experience of working with children and young people in the NHS medical and mental health services and am competent and qualified in carrying out a fully comprehensive assessment.

  • Primary Mental Health Worker & CAMHS Clinician – Middlesbrough and Stockton Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (July 2005 – May 2016)

I am fully registered with the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) governing body and I am currently working towards accreditation with the British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).

  • Diploma in Higher Education in Nursing Studies (Children) – 2003
  • BSc 2.1 Hons in Practice Development (Child and Adolescent Mental Health) – 2010
  • Post Grad Diploma with Commendation in Evidence Based Psychological Therapy (CBT) – 2014

Over time I have developed significant knowledge and experience from working with a range of problems and disorders (ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Learning Difficulties and Disabilities) to rule out any possible underlying medical or mental health problems that may be contributing to the presenting issues.

Skilled in working with a range of anxiety disorders; separationgeneralised and social anxiety, alongside panicphobia and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).  I also work with low mood/depression, self esteem/low confidence, anger and behavioural difficulties.
